Connections to instrument on the bridge

S-VDR
With an S-VDR installation, limited amount of instruments should be connected to the S-VDR. Normally, these instruments provide standard output as audio, NMEA or RGB (radar) which makes connections easy. In some cases however, the instrument to be connected does not provide an output, which need to be installed before SVDR can be connected. Most Navigation and Communication suppliers deliver these interfaces from stock.

To be able to install the SVDR in one time, it is therefore important to know the instruments to be connected in advance, to make sure they are fitted out to connect the S-VDR. Netwave can provide detailed information on this to make sure your S-VDR installation runs smoothly.

VDR
With a VDR installation, more instruments should be connected, like Audio, NMEA, Digital, Analogue, Video, Stepper or Synchro. Depending on the equipment to be connected, Netwave will provide the right amount of different adaptors that fit in the Wavenet Interface Modules.

Underneath, you will find a list of the different adaptors Netwave can supply:

NW-4420 WaveNet 4-CH AUDIO  3/4-CH MIC + 1/0 CH VHF ADAPTOR
This adapter provides four separate audio channels, which are all individually recorded by the VDR. Two of these channels are configured as microphones (fixed) and the other two channels may be selected to be either VHF inputs or microphone inputs. Up to 12 audio channels (2 x 4420 adaptor) may be digitized and compressed per WIM.

Connection is with pluggable screw terminals. Up to 12 individual channels (microphones or VHF) may be recorded in the VDR. Provided the DIP switch in left in factory Default (ON) all inputs are galvanically separated. This audio adaptor may be placed in any free slot in any of the WaveNet Interface Modules.

NW-4430 WaveNet 8-CH SERIAL/NMEA ADAPTOR
The 4430 microprocessor based adaptor provides 8 serial NMEA input ports (separate recording channels) adhering to the IEC61662-1 standard, which is typical for shipboard equipment providing compatible output signals like GPS, etc. Maximum of 64 NMEA channels per (S)VDR system. One WIM can hold maximum 4 x NW4430 NMEA adaptors, therefore 32 channels.

NW-4432 WaveNet 8-CH DIGITAL ADAPTER
This interface adaptor has eight digital inputs to which digital (on/off) signals can be connected. All inputs are galvanically separated from the VDR and from one another. An input is active between 10 VDC and 32 VDC and is considered to be inactive below 5 VDC. Each 4432 adaptor provides 8 universal digital I/O’s, which may be powered (10-36 VDC) or connect to unpowered sensors. One WIM can hold a maximum of 4 NW4432 adaptors, therefore 32 discrete recording channels.

NW-4445 WaveNet Radar Video Adaptor UXGA up to 1600x1200 (60HZ)
This interface adaptor has one input and is capable of reading the radar image up to resolutions of 1600 x 1200. The input connector on the video board is a DVI-A connector and can accept DVI signals as well as analogue signals.

This module is a double sized adaptor (it takes the space of two other standard adaptors) and can only be placed at the utmost right-hand side of a WIM Interface Module. DVI-I Digital and Analog [RGB]; 29 pins [modified D style to connect to radars with output resolutions up to 1600x1200 by means of cables provided within the standard supply;
- DVI-I to VGA HD15 female
- DVI-I to BNC male
- DVI-I to screw terminal

NW-4450 WaveNet 4-CH ANALOGUE ADAPTOR 4-20 mA
The Analogue adapter is a microprocessor based, wet or dry contact interface. 4 input channels per adaptor, configurable to accept 4-20mA. Each discrete input channel is able to detect the presence or absence of a current while maintaining complete opto-isolation from the source. In addition, the WaveConnect™ Analogue adapter incorporates full DCDC electrical isolation in its input power supply.

NW-4452 WaveNet 4-CH ANALOGUE ADAPTOR -10V/+10V
The Analogue adapter is a microprocessor based interface. 4 input channels per adaptor, each accepting -10 V to +10V. Each input channel is able to detect a voltage level within the specified range while maintaining complete opto-isolation from the source. In addition, the WaveConnect™ Analogue adapter incorporates full DC-DC electrical isolation in its input power supply.

NW-4454 WaveNet 4-CH ANALOGUE ADAPTOR 0-10V
The Analogue adapter is a microprocessor based interface. 4 input channels per adaptor, each accepting 0 V to +10V. Each input channel is able to detect a voltage level within the specified range while maintaining complete opto-isolation from the source. In addition, the WaveConnect™ Analogue adapter incorporates full DC-DC electrical isolation in its input power supply.

NW-4460 WaveNet AIS ADAPTOR 38.4K Bd
This adaptor converts AIS high-speed serial data for the VDR system. Please note that it is also possible to feed this AIS data through the BCU unit into the VDR system. Only one AIS adaptor may be connected to any WIM. The AIS adaptor can be placed in the slots 1 to 4.

NW-4470 WaveNet COMPASS ADAPTOR / STEPPER
This adaptor converts stepper-signals from a gyrocompass into a course signal for the VDR. Since stepper-information is available as relative information only, the actual course must be re-adjusted after every start-up of the gyrocompass or the VDR system. Adjusting the course is easily done on the Bridge Control Unit. The stepper interface can handle ratios of 1:360, 1:180, 1:90 and 1:36.

The input voltage per step-input is 20 to 100 V DC. The adaptor accepts common + to common - signals. Only one compass adaptor may be connected to the VDR to accommodate the IMO requirement for the ships designated compass.

NW-4472 WaveNet COMPASS ADAPTOR / SYNCHRO
This adaptor converts compass signals from a gyrocompass into a course signal for the VDR. The input voltages from the synchro must be between 20 and 135 VAC. The ratio of the synchro in the gyrocompass must be 1:1. The adaptor has to drive the synchro itself. Only one compass adaptor may be connected to the VDR to accommodate the IMO requirement for the ships designated compass.

NW-4480 WaveNet 200 PPM LOG ADAPTER
to accommodate 200 puls/mile (log) signals. This WaveConnect™ Analogue adapter is a field-configurable microprocessor based, wet or dry contact interface +/-5V, +/-10V, and 0- 10V analog input. The input channel is able to detect the presence or absence of a voltage while maintaining complete opto-isolation from the voltage source. In addition, this WaveConnect™

Adapter incorporates full DC-DC electrical isolation in its input power supply.
